Overview

The Emissions Impact Dashboard for Azure is a Power BI app that gives transparency on the carbon emissions generated by an organisation's use of Azure cloud services, based on Microsoft's carbon accounting across all three emission scopes. Microsoft's documentation states that the methodology was originally validated by Stanford University in 2018 and that the app's methodology and implementation went through third-party verification against the WRI/WBCSD GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard, in accordance with ISO 14064-3. The dashboard shows subscription-level data powered by Azure Consumed Revenue, requires a Power BI Pro licence and an EA Direct, MCA or MPA billing relationship, and is scheduled to be retired on 31 March 2027, with Microsoft recommending Azure Carbon Optimization as the alternative.

Use cases

  • View carbon emissions attributable to Azure usage
  • Report scope 3 emissions from cloud services
